Life Sciences
Scotland is home to the second largest life science cluster
in the UK and Lanarkshire, alongside Edinburgh and Glasgow,
forms part of the major life sciences belt in the country.
Biogelx, a developer of leading edge peptide hydrogels for
use in toxicology and TC BioPharm, which is testing an
innovative treatment using a patient’s own cells to target and
destroy cancer, are just two of the life science companies
who have chosen to locate in Lanarkshire.
With its bespoke facilities, BioCity Scotland has become
the centre for a wide range of research, training and
thought leadership in the industry, and more recently has
received a funding boost from the government to set up
MediCity, which will be a focus for the commercialisation
for innovation in the fields of healthcare and wellness.
Business advice and support can be helpful, especially
when many companies in the life sciences sector are
entrepreneurial start ups or collaborations with universities,
and Lanarkshire offers a nurturing environment to this small
but important and growing sector in the Scottish economy.
Maxim Park in North
Lanarkshire provides
the infrastructure
and support to build
a GMP-compliant
clinical research
facility from the
‘ground-up’, in a
cost-effective
manner, with the
minimum of fuss.

Chief Executive, TC BioPharm
