Funding and Grant Support
A variety of funding and grant support is available to businesses in Lanarkshire. These can range from
loans of up to £100,000 through to small grants to help with staff training, capital expenditure, property
improvements or to attend trade exhibitions. They include the West of Scotland Loan Fund, Business
Support Grants, Sustainable Business Growth Fund and Town Centre Business Grant Programme.
In North Lanarkshire alone, almost a hundred companies were assisted between April 2013
to March 2014 through funding schemes for consultancy, training and exhibition support and
grants to improve capital expenditure and infrastructure. This resulted in 192 jobs being created.

In South Lanarkshire, in the same year 134 companies were given financial assistance by way of grant
or loan to help grow their business and this resulted in 214 jobs being created or safeguarded in
the area. A further 522 businesses were provided advice through the Lanarkshire Property Advice

Employability Support
North and South Lanarkshire Councils have a range of services that support businesses in finding the right
candidates for the job while also helping to tackle local unemployment.
Both councils’ employability teams offer businesses the following:
• A dedicated point of contact
• Free tailored recruitment service to determine employment needs
• Advertising of the vacancy and shortlisting of the best suitable candidates
• Financial incentives and wage subsidies
