Since 2012, North Lanarkshire Council’s employability support programme, North Lanarkshire’s Working,
has supported 2,300 people to find a job with over 900 employers and an additional 2,400 jobs have been
created through the wage subsidy Youth Investment Programme.
Since 2012, South Lanarkshire Council’s employability support programme, South Lanarkshire Works 4 U,
supported over 3,400 residents to work in over 2,000 businesses in the travel to work area.

Town Centre Activities
North and South Lanarkshire Councils recognise that town centres are vital to the local economy
and in building a sense of community. Both councils are working with partners, including town groups,
owners, development trusts and individuals to bring forward a range of initiatives that will assist in
giving Lanarkshire’s town centres the best prospects of addressing the significant challenges facing them.
Through the Town Centre Framework and Action Plan, North Lanarkshire Council is working closely with
Town Centre Activities Ltd (TCA) to support economic regeneration. TCA delivers a range of services in
the communities and town centres of North Lanarkshire from preventing and detecting crime, providing
shopmobility services to people with mobility difficulties and offering financial support and guidance
to shops and businesses as well as providing free Wi-Fi in all North Lanarkshire town centres.
South Lanarkshire Council Regeneration
Services works with a range of stakeholders to
understand the issues affecting town centres,
and how the council can deliver projects
though partnership working. The opportunities
range from major development sites, through
Wi-Fi provision, to small business and financial
support initiatives targeted at new businesses
entering town centres.
