Business mentors
Business mentor programme provides the opportunity
for experienced business people and entrepreneurs to
mentor and support new and growing businesses.

New Enterprise Allowance (NEA)
The NEA is available to unemployed people, aged
18 and over, who have been claiming Jobseeker’s
Allowance (JSA) for three months or more and wants to
start their own business. NEA will provide a business
mentor to help start up and develop your business -
it could also provide business loans of up to £2,500.

Support for manufacturing companies
Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS)
MAS provide businesses, whatever their size, with
practical support on all aspects of manufacturing and
offers direct access to manufacturing experts with a
proven track record. The service includes: (i) free help
desk advice (ii) free on-site specialist manufacturing
review (iii) subsidised consultancy assistance with
funding up to £10,000 (iv) support to increase supply
chain and win new contracts.
MAS is delivered by a consortium of private sector

Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative
This scheme helps existing UK supply chains grow
and achieve world class standards while encouraging
major new suppliers to come and manufacture in this
country. The fund supports innovative projects, in
established UK advanced manufacturing sectors
such as aerospace, automotive and chemicals. It also
targets newer growth areas where the UK is well
placed to take a global lead, such as energy
renewables and other low carbon sectors.

Assistance in export and doing
business overseas (Export/International
Trade Support)
UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) offer a range of
advice and support for new and experienced
exporters, including:
Exporting for Growth Guide –
this provides
information on the benefits of exporting and issues
companies need to consider as well as outlining
sources of help.
Open to Export
is a new online service providing
SMEs with information, advice and guidance on
exporting overseas. Companies receive bespoke
answers to meet their business needs in new
markets, access practical information on export
topics, connect and engage with a range of
exporters and explore the latest international
opportunities for their business. In addition to
accessing government advice through international
trade advisors based at British embassies and high
commissions, companies can also receive support
from existing and prospective exporters, lawyers,
accountants and independent trade advisors.
Passport to Export –
this programme offers free
capability assessments, support in visiting markets,
mentoring from a local professional, action plans,
customised and subsidized training, as well as
ongoing support.
Research and contact services –
These include
Overseas Market Introduction Service and Export
Markets Research Scheme and other market
intelligence services for exporters.
