• Located in the heart of
West Kent
• Population of approximately 120,000
• 92 square miles
• There are two main urban areas:
- Tonbridge is a market town with a
population of around 39,000. It is located
on the River Medway, approximately 4 miles
north of Tunbridge Wells. The town dates
back to at least the 11th century and was
recorded in the Domesday Book as
‘Tonebrige’.
- the ‘Medway Gap’ urban area in the north of
the borough is located along the M20/A20
corridor to the north-west of
Maidstone.
It encompasses the parishes of Aylesford,
Ditton, East
Malling and Larkfield,
Leybourne and the town of Snodland.
• Much of the borough is rural in character
and comprises a number of attractive rural
centres – such as West
Malling, Borough
Green, Hadlow, Hildenborough and East
Peckham - as well as environmental
designations such as the Metropolitan Green
Belt and the Kent Downs Area of
Outstanding Natural
Beauty.
• There are a number of key employment sites
in the borough, including:
