Aerospace 
Manchester is home to an aerospace engineering and manufacturing base that forms an important part of the regional industry. It is the largest single centre of aerospace manufacturing in the UK as well as a leading centre of excellence in Europe. 
The areaÕs strengths include the close proximity of major companies such as BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce and Airbus, the established infrastructure and skills base and the high concentration of universities. 
Within the city region, the Manchester University Aerospace Research Institute contributes to the strength of the industry through sustaining applied research and development, maintaining and enhancing the UKÕs position in the global aerospace market. Bringing together more than 60 academics, its research strengths include the following areas:

The region is also the home of the Northern Aerospace Technology Exploitation Centre (NATEC) based at Manchester Science Park.  An alliance between Northern Universities and the UKÕs aerospace industry, NATEC was established in 2002 and provides access to technology solutions by exploiting existing research activities. Working with leading academics and the latest equipment, NATEC develops new products and new technology and assists in building a highly skilled and specialist workforce.
