Local Development & Regeneration | St Petersfield, Ashton Ask DevelopmentsÕ £60m mixed-use St Petersfield urban quarter in Ashton is already home to Pennine Care NHS TrustÕs 26,000 sq ft regional headquarters and an £11m 40,000 sq ft primary care centre for Tameside and Glossop primary care trust is scheduled to complete in October of this year and will be operational by January 2009. Two new lettings have recently been confirmed, with national charity Shaw Trust and TNG recruitment and training support now occupying over 8,000 sq ft. The next phase of development at St Petersfield is the creation of 100 new business suites each measuring 500 sq ft, and a bespoke building for Tameside College. Elsewhere in Ashton, 2007 saw work begin on the restoration of the town's famous market hall, devastated by fire in 2004 and set to reopen late 2008, featuring a newly created basement, a mezzanine for offices and a mixed use area on the first floor. In 2006, Ashton saw the opening of Britain's first in-town IKEA, and major developments are taking place at the town's two main shopping centres Š The Arcades and The Ladysmith. In nearby Denton, the Crown Point North shopping centre opened in 2003, attracting an impressive list of retail tenants, including a Marks and Spencer Outlet store, TK Maxx and BHS. The Wharf, Droylsden Droylsden's £100m renaissance has taken a leap forward as contractors start work on the first commercial phase of The Wharf, the 12.5 acre regeneration scheme focusing on the town's canal-side location. An artists impression of Droylsdens The Wharf regeneration scheme The five-year scheme features a marina and canal boat wharf, surrounded by town houses, apartments, retail, leisure and commercial accommodation. The first commercial phase will be completed in October 2008 (followed by a second) and a Metrolink stop is also planned. SK14 Industrial Parkon Broadway in Hyde Small to medium sized developers have also recognised the development potential of smaller sites across Tameside. One smaller scheme is developer Stuart Knox's SK14 Industrial Park on Broadway in Hyde. SK14 serves as an opportunity for businesses of all sizes to acquire modern premises in a canal-side environment. In Hyde, Kilmartin Property Group's Hyde Point industrial development on Dunkirk Lane has been speculatively developed to provide new industrial units. Local businesses getting involved Elsewhere, existing local companies have developed using their own land. Stalybridge-based Charlestown Engineering Services Ltd has demonstrated its confidence in the Tameside economy with the development of a small industrial estate for start-up ventures and expanding businesses.
