| Local Development & Regeneration New developments herald Exciting future for Tameside After six years of investment and development, Tameside is ready to present major developments, business opportunities and a bright future for its residents and businesses. A ugust 2008 marked the end of the six-year European Regional Development Fund, Tameside Economic Development Zone. This initiative has helped to stimulate confidence and investment in an area now bearing the signs of change, growth and success. The original catalyst for all of this change was the opening of the M60 link. When completed, developments in Tameside will have generated £437m in investment, ensuring that major relocating companies and fast-growing businesses and their employees see the area as an ideal location for work and leisure. The past six years have seen major developers undertake large mixed-use schemes such as Ashton Moss and St Petersfield in Ashton under Lyne, The Wharf in Droylsden, as well as retail development in Ashton town centre, IKEA in Ashton and Crown Point North, Denton. At Ashton Moss, Muse/Stayley Developments has begun construction of a 100,000 sq ft (9,290 sq m) operational headquarters for Greater Manchester Police (GMP). Scheduled for completion in November 2008, the building will accommodate around 600 staff relocating from sites across the GMP area. A milestone in the development of this mixed-use development, GMP's relocation adds another in a series of big names heading to Ashton Moss, including De Vere Group Plc's Village Hotel and Leisure Club. With 1.1m sq ft of industrial and distribution space, 195,000 sq ft of leisure facilities and 115,000 sq ft of retail provision already in existence at Ashton Moss, proposals are being developed for approximately 500,000 sq ft of employment-generating space.
