Investment and Regeneration | Shaping the Future Based in the heart of Liverpool, Places Matter! is the architecture and built environment centre for the Northwest working to improve the quality of life in the region. P laces Matter! operates from the Tea Factory development in the Ropewalks area of central Liverpool. Ropewalks has been a regeneration area for over a decade, reclaiming a previously underused location in the commercial heart of the city. The area comprises new build, Georgian and Victorian architecture sitting side-by-side and is home to LiverpoolÕs independent cinema, recording studios and many of its small shops and businesses. The redevelopment of Ropewalks demonstrates that the quality of buildings, streets, squares and parks are key contributors towards defining a place. High quality, well-designed communities help raise quality of life, helping to generate positive social, economic and environmental benefits. Creating inspirational spaces In 2007 Places Matter! published ÔCreating Inspirational SpacesÕ, a handbook for high quality public realm design in the Northwest.
