The Thames Gateway developments are bringing the focus for the town back toward the water, with developing commercial and leisure space making Gravesend an ideal location for businesses of all sizes. In the Heritage Quarter, the riverside area is being rejuvenated, with the restoration of both the cobbled high street and the landmark town pier; the oldest cast iron pier in the world refurbished to include a restaurant and bar with a public viewing area commanding magnificent views of the river. It is hoped that new investment in the Heritage Quarter will not only bring 1,000 jobs to the town, but a continued attraction to business investors as the project makes way for a modern events area, new public space, and 90,000 sq ft of new shops with a hotel complex. Other Thames Gateway projects: Gravesend Transport Quarter An estimated £75m investment is planned to create a major quality gateway for Gravesend, with a transport interchange that integrates public transport services Ð rail (including High Speed 1), Fastrack, other buses and taxis Ð as well as providing new homes, employment space, parking and supporting infrastructure. Canal Basin Area, Gravesend The first phases of regeneration with 350 homes and refurbishment of the Thames and Medway Canal Basin is practically complete with additional phases for riverside residential, employment and leisure uses. Ebbsfleet The first phase of development at Ebbsfleet is underway with a new community at Springhead Park overlooking Ebbsfleet Station. Further phases at Northfleet Rise have received planning approval and include new office and hotel development close to the Station itself.
