| District Focus Sea Change Through major investment projects, Dover District Council is working to ensure Dover District enjoys an incredible outlook for the future. U niquely located, with the arrival of high-speed rail this year, the busiest passenger ferry port in the world, world-class heritage, and a transformational regeneration agenda, Dover is set for an exciting future. Dover District Council works with a wide range of partners to deliver regeneration and to support business development throughout the District. The District is subsequently benefiting from a range of investment, including Government Growth Point funding which provides support to local communities wishing to pursue large scale and sustainable growth. A wide range of developments includes: ¥ The comprehensive multi-million pound redevelopment of Dover Town Centre, known as the Dover Town Investment Zone ¥ The £100m second phase of the White Cliffs Business Park ¥ Residential development plans on the Connaught Barracks site for a sustainable and nationally acknowledged eco¥excellence scheme ¥ Ground breaking plans for the development of Aylesham ¥ An award-winning new cafŽ-bar on Deal Pier opened in 2008, and the new Dover Sea Sports Centre ¥ Further improvements at Dover Priory in advance of high-speed rail ¥ An Olympic Live Site big screen installed in Dover Market Square as Kent prepares for the London Olympic Games in 2012, and works at Dover Castle as part of the Sea Change project. Harbouring ambitions Dover Harbour Board plans to build upon its world-leading position with an additional terminal. The port, Dover District Council and other key partners are working to develop a stunning new waterfront. Plans include connecting the port with landmark sites by bridge. The Council and partners are also developing plans for a cable car between the seafront and Dover Castle as part of the Sea Change programme which also includes work on the esplanade on Dover seafront. These structures will complement the internationally recognised icons of the Castle and the White Cliffs. Alongside regeneration plans The Open Golf Tournament returns to Royal St GeorgeÕs in Sandwich in 2011, attracting business and investment to the District.
