Dover Pride ¥ Securing strategic involvement in the Dover Priory Station Interreg-funded project ¥ Generating a positive message for change through urban renaissance Nine catalytic projects will help to achieve the vision and deliver the transformational actions of improving skills, raising economic activity, improving infrastructure and education-led regeneration. Projects Dover Waterfront is set to become a thriving, lively and popular destination with the potential development of a new marina, hotel, residential, commercial, retail and leisure uses. This mixed use site will sit alongside the planned £300 million Port of Dover expension It is estimated that the current projects will provide around £500 million of investment, creating and safeguarding over 5,500 jobs, as well as creating many new businesses and developing over 15,000 square metres of commercial space. Other benefits include creating over 800 new residential units, reclaiming over 35 hectares of brownfield land and upskilling over 6,000 local people. The Dover Pride Regeneration Partnership has already achieved the following: ¥ Successful lobbying of the government for a prompt planning decision on the White Cliffs Business Park ¥ Successful lobbying of the government for early action on the Dover Town Investment Zone, a town centre site ¥ Securing significant investment from SEEDA and English Partnerships for Dover Town Centre ¥ Successful lobbying of government departments to secure the extension of the High Speed Rail Link from London to Dover, and reject the application for an Open Prison at Connaught Barracks The regeneration of the town is being orchestrated by Dover Pride, the multi-agency regeneration partnership for Dover. The partnership is committed to secure long term regeneration of the town by combining work from key agencies and stakeholders to drive forward a broad range of projects while also renewing a sense of pride in the community. Dover Waterfront is set to become a thriving, lively and popular destination Cannon Street Dover Sea Sports centre public spaces and improve orientation around the town. This strategy provides the physical linkage between all the major projects and will be transformational for the town. The first of these projects to start is Dover Priory Station. The station interior has already been modernised to provide improved facilities in readiness for the High Speed Link coming to Dover in 2009, and the work around the station is being planned. The station approach will become a high quality, pedestrian orientated environment, fitting for an international gateway. Dover Sea Sports Centre will be a centre of national significance for a range of sea sports, delivering training and development opportunities. This landmark building in its superb seafront location was completed in Spring 2008. Connaught Barracks will be a mixed used development of the highest quality design and environmental standards. This environmentally sustainable residential-led redevelopment scheme is located to the north of Dover town centre and adjacent to Dover Castle. Connaught Barracks covers an area of 56 hectares, of which 12.5 ha is suitable for the development of up to 500 new homes. The remaining land includes large areas of open space and an English Heritage Scheduled Ancient Monument, Fort Burgoyne. These projects will help ensure that by 2035 Dover will be one of the most prosperous towns on the south coast, characterised by a highly skilled and enterprising community that is proud of its town, its port and its heritage. Dover Town Investment zone in the St JamesÕ area is a major urban renewal programme, led by Dover District Council, to turn a run down town centre site into a large, retail led, mixed use development comprising food and non-food retail, residential, hotel and restaurant uses. It is hoped that this complex site will be developed by 2010. Buckland Mill, led by SEEDA, will include conversion of the existing mill buildings and listed house alongside an extensive residential development of Eco Homes, excellent houses and apartments, community facilities and employment provision. The River Dour runs through the centre of this site and has been opened up to provide a riverside walk both for residents and those passing through the area. This development should be completed by 2012. White Cliffs Business Park is currently undergoing construction to provide 130,000 sq m of new commercial space. The business park will provide a prime business location with the advantage of excellent links to the continent. South Kent College, DoverÕs further education college, the Police and PCT are all located in Mid Town. Close to the main shopping area and with the River Dour running through the heart of the site, Mid Town has potential to become a vibrant riverside mixed-use location.
