hepway is a strategically important location on the south Kent coast. The District includes the historic Cinque Port towns of Hythe, New Romney and Lydd with the attractive seaside town of Folkestone the commercial hub. Meanwhile, vibrant and varied countryside ranges from the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the open vistas of Romney Marsh and Dungeness. 
The District is located 35 minutes from France via the Channel Tunnel and within 70 minutes of London via the M20. From December 2009, high-speed rail services will link Shepway to London St Pancras in less than an hour. Indeed, Folkestone will be the Kent coastal town with the quickest links to London. In addition, London Ashford Airport at Lydd operates a number of continental routes and is currently pursuing expansion plans to handle 500,000 passengers per year.
