Transport | E dinburgh has two railway stations: Waverley - located in the city centre just south of Princes Street - and Haymarket in the West End. Almost all trains begin at Waverley, and those heading for destinations to the west or north also stop at Haymarket. Express trains Express trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow run every 15 minutes from 06.30 - 19.30 and half hourly after that, taking less than an hour from city to city. Express services from the capital also run to Dundee and further north to Aberdeen and Inverness. Perth and Stirling are also within easy reach. Good for business The number of people travelling by train on business is growing as more customers recognise the benefits of this mode of transport. For example, taking the train means that people can work as they travel, which may enable them to leave work slightly earlier. The environmental benefits are also becoming clearer. For extra comfort and facilities, First Class travel is available on services between Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness as well as other main UK routes and the overnight Caledonian Sleeper, which runs six nights a week from London Euston to Edinburgh. East to west National Express operates the inter-city train services along the East Coast main line linking Edinburgh to north-east Scotland and London Kings Cross via Dunbar, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham, Darlington, York, Doncaster, Grantham, Peterborough and Stevenage. The West Coast main line, operated by Virgin Trains is easily accessible from Glasgow. The line connects central Scotland to London Euston via other UK financial centres such as Manchester and Birmingham. The First TransPennine Express service links Edinburgh with north England, linking the Scottish capital with Manchester airport and the Lake District.
