Quartermile The Quartermile is a £400 million project that is transforming the former site of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and is one of Scotland's largest urban regeneration projects. No. 1 Quartermile Square, a seven-storey office building, will comprise over 300,000 sq. ft of Grade A office space. The development also includes more than 900 new homes and 78,000 sq. ft. of leisure space for bars, restaurants and a hotel. Just a quarter of a mile from the city centre bordering the Meadows, homes include one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom luxury apartments split into two areas of distinct quality - Grade B listed conversions or modern new build apartments. Designed by Foster and Partners, Quartermile's new buildings are steel and glass constructions clad in aluminium to match the Scottish slate on the refurbished buildings. The project is supporting over 500 jobs during its construction and once complete will offer a further 3,800 jobs in its offices, restaurants and shops. The development is expected to generate an additional £135 million of economic activity annually. "Quartermile strikes the right relationship between the conservation and repair of an existing place - the infirmary - with the revitalisation of the spaces around it and the injection of new architectural blood." - Kevin McCloud, property expert.
